Jerusalem, Israel – The Holy Land
Jerusalem is a city that has religious significance for Christians, Muslims as well as Jews. The birthplace of religion, the Holy Land is a center for religious pilgrims. The history of this land, along with its culture and beauty, makes for a truly unparalleled destination. Jerusalem has so many holy sites that it is simply a task trying to decide where to begin. There are a great number of sites here.
The Al Aqsa Mosque is a site that is important in Islam. This is exactly where Prophet Muhammad ascended into heaven.
The Western Wall or the Wailing Wall is another significant destination. It is a holy site for the Jewish. Outside of the Temple Mount itself, it is one of the holiest sites.
The Old City Portion of Jerusalem is also home to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where Jesus was resurrected. This is a significant location for Christians. There is a marked corner that marks the exact spot where the cross of Jesus actually stood.
Also make sure you visit the Yad Vashem, which is built in memory of the millions of people who died in the Holocaust. There are images and objects made by victims and survivors of the Holocaust. This is a deeply moving experience. You will never be the same after a visit to the location.
The Mount of Olives is another site that is notable. There are tombs of prophets in a cemetery here. You can visit the Chapel of the Ascension.
